Is Disney Praising Chinese Genocide!?

if you're a viewer of this show you
might remember that almost a year ago
we released an episode about the
influence china's communist party
censorship has on the american
entertainment industry
called china doesn't want you to watch
this video
so i guess i shouldn't be surprised
there's a big problem
at the heart of disney's newest
live-action release
mulan and i don't just mean their
distribution strategy
with its 200 million dollar production
budget not
including the cost of marketing putting
mulan out on vod
instead of releasing the film in
theaters was an incredibly high stakes
bet
even for a giant like disney box office
numbers for mulan aren't out yet but
given the 30 price tag on top of an
existing disney plus subscription
and the fact that it'll be available at
no extra charge on the platform in
december
i'd be curious as to how many people
have actually seen it yet
full disclosure i haven't but this video
isn't about the movie it's about disney
you see some sharp-eyed viewers took a
closer look at the credits for mulan
and noticed something disturbing beyond
the usual capitulation to the chinese
government we talked about before
for this movie disney specifically
thanked eight different chinese
governmental agencies
including four propaganda departments
and a public security bureau
in the xinyang province so why does that
matter
that's where the chinese government is
perpetrating a slow-motion
ethnic cleansing of uyghur muslims right
now
hit the subscribe button ring the bell
icon to get notifications and
let's get into it on this heartbreaking
and infuriating
short edition of out of frame
a lot of people aren't really aware of
what's happening to the uyghurs
at the hands of the communist party so
it might not be
immediately obvious why so many people
are upset about disney's
special thanks section for mulan
according to chinese government claims
xinyang is an autonomous province within
china and their interactions with the
uyghur people are for the purpose of
assimilating them into chinese culture
and for providing job training centers
according to other sources like amnesty
international
human rights watch the united nations
and you know
people were actually there the reality
is
far more insidious the chinese
government and the uyghur muslims living
in china
have had tense relations for years after
a brief
and ultimately failed bid for
independence in the early 20th century
the cultural religious and economic
restrictions placed on the uyghurs
gradually became
more and more oppressive now
the inner parliamentary alliance on
china has stated
a body of mounting evidence now exists
alleging mass incarceration
indoctrination extrajudicial detention
invasive surveillance
forced labor and the destruction of
uyghur cultural
sites including cemeteries together with
other forms of abuse to be clear the
other forms of abuse mentioned
are cutting weaker birth rates through
forced sterilization
forced abortions and forced long-term
contraceptive measures like
iuds these acts by china's government
meet the accepted definition of genocide
any one of these actions would be reason
enough for protest
taken together they're enraging
china's communist party is currently
engaged in a major abuse of human rights
targeted against a specific religious
group
and it's all happening primarily in
xinyang province
whose multiple propaganda agencies
disney so profusely thanked in the
credits for mulan
a movie that also stars several notable
chinese actors
who have made numerous public statements
supporting the ccp
it's not a good look for disney and look
i'm pretty sensitive to the challenges
of filmmaking
as i said in the episode on chinese
censorship last year
making a movie in china featuring
chinese locations and getting it
screened in chinese theaters
was always going to require some level
of interaction
and compliance with the chinese
government just like it would if you
made a movie anywhere else
but if that means having to thank their
propaganda ministries while
ignoring genocide happening a few miles
from your set
maybe you should reconsider the whole
production
also on the long list of things i find
incredibly frustrating about this
situation
is the level of hypocrisy on display by
disney
back in may of last year bob iger
suggested that it would be
very difficult to continue filming in
the state of georgia
where i live because of the recent
passage of a pretty strict anti-abortion
bill
the company was taking a public stance
on a moral and political issue
while strongly insinuating that their
values would guide their production
decisions
going forward iger said that he couldn't
see how it would be
practical for disney to continue to
shoot in georgia if the heartbeat bill
was passed
that's clearly their prerogative but
apparently disney's moral compass didn't
have
anything to say about the practicality
of filming in a province where
ethnic cleansing was and still is
actually happening
regardless of your opinion on abortion
law in georgia
this behavior is a testament to just how
skewed disney's priorities are
maybe they thought that since so few
people know what's happening to the
uyghurs in
xinyang no one would really notice that
they thanked the agencies in charge of
overseeing as many as 3 million
imprisoned muslims but if that's true it
only makes it worse
what we do when we think no one will
notice matters
most of all beyond issues of character
this kind of behavior also perpetuates
the harmful stereotype that businesses
and business people all of them are
nasty
greedy and unethical and will do
literally
anything if it means padding their
bottom line
and it ultimately betrays one of the
most important themes of mulan
itself mulan is supposed to be about a
young woman who defies the expectations
imposed on her by others bucking the
notion of go along to get along
to do the things she knows to be right
it's about a heroic individual
standing up to an oppressive society
that's
not what happened here i'm never going
to tell you what movies you should
or shouldn't watch a lot of people
worked on mulan who had no control over
these decisions and
may not have even known that any of this
was going on a few miles from their
production
and it is possible to separate the art
from the artists
and from the circumstances that created
it whether you pay to see mulan or not
is a decision only you can make as for
me
i will not be making time for this film
instead i'll use those few hours to
remind people that chinese communism in
the 21st century
looks a lot like it did in the 20th
century
after a few decades where it seemed like
they might be opening up and becoming
a more free society it's clear now
that they're headed right back to where
they were under chairman mao
i don't have the power to fix that but i
do have the power to remember that how
we treat others
and allow others to be treated matters
and the choices all of us make
from which movies to attend as audience
members
to which we produce as filmmakers have
an impact on the world around us
i don't have to stand by and let china's
communist horror show
go unnoticed or ignore disney's decision
to praise the same agencies that are
perpetrating a genocide
on the other side of the world and
neither do you
hey everybody thanks so much for
watching this episode
dealt with some pretty tricky subject
matter that i know is
a real sensitive spot for a lot of
people so i'd love to hear what you
think in the comments
but let's make a special effort to be
kind to one another down there

Tribute to Ruth Bader Ginsburg
Imagine being so greedy that you keep you job until you die just so no one else gets it.
Once there was a wicked witch in the lovely land of Oz
And a wickeder, wickeder, wickeder witch there never, never was
She filled the folks in Munchkin land with terror and with dread
'Till one fine day from Kansas way a cyclone caught a house
That brought the wicked, wicked witch her doom
As she was flying on her broom
For the house fell on her head and the coroner pronounced her dead
And thru the town the joyous news was spread
Ding-dong, the witch is dead! Which old witch? The wicked witch
Ding-dong, the wicked witch is dead
Wake up, you sleepy head, rub your eyes, get out of bed
Wake up, the wicked witch is dead!
She's gone where the goblins go below, below, below, yo ho
Let's open up and sing, and ring the bells out
Ding-dong! the merry-o sing it high, sing it low
Let them know the wicked witch is dead
Ding-dong, the witch is dead! Which old witch? The wicked witch
Ding-dong, the wicked witch is dead
Wake up, you sleepy head, rub your eyes, get out of bed
Wake up, the wicked witch is dead!
She's gone where the goblins go below, below, below, yo ho
Let's open up and sing, and ring the bells out
Ding-dong! the merry-o sing it high, sing it low
Let them know the wicked witch is dead

hello everyone i'm professor geek
welcome back to the channel and
so i i saw fan man's video the other day
that he made on bill and ted uh face the
music the new bill and ted movie
and he actually goes in and i recommend
you watching this video if you haven't
seen it because he goes in and shows the
article
that talks about the creator or one of
the co-creators of bill and ted uh
solomon something solomon is his last
name
and he is it's just the usual mo
from hollywood creators today they've
they've
allowed agenda to steer them to some
degree obviously already we don't know
how much it'll be unless you actually
want to go see the movie i'm out i don't
even care about it anymore
but uh but the agenda steers the movie
to some degree and then they get really
defensive and and uh
snippy on social media that anybody
would dare criticize them for it
and he was saying some of the silliest
things of course
you know as fan man points out he's
trying to and he shows them the argument
that he's trying to say well
you know it never we never said that
bill and ted's children were boys we
never said that at the end
of bogus journey when they get back from
the future
they've learned how to play guitar at
that point and they've got they've each
got babies on their back
and they give them to their wives and
they say they say bill says say hello to
little ted
and ted says say hello to little bill
that's i'm sorry any girl named
theodora maybe goes by teddy but not ted
any girl named billy you've got some of
that you know doesn't go by bill
that's stupid and it's it's a it's a
it's a retcon it's it's trying to go
back and slip something in
where it wasn't stop pretending you know
this man well pointed out absolutely
then he said and this is what i really
wanted to latch on to
he said that they're trying to do
something different now because
they always wanted to do something
different he points out how bogus
journey was something very different
than uh than excellent adventure you
know instead of going through time
travel we had them going through
the afterlife basically and stuff and
that was true okay but it was still
essentially a bill and ted movie you
still had the core
of what it's supposed to be is that
focuses on bill and ted
in their friendship and their zaniness
it was a buddy movie
absolutely a buddy movie you can't you
can't take that away
and solomon said in the article too he
said
we've had enough buddy movies he said
you've got the first bill in ted you've
got wayne's world
you've got dumb and dumber you've got
all these movies we wanted to do
something different
you're you're making a bill and ted
movie well you can't do anything
different that's ridiculous that's like
somebody saying well we're making a
superman movie but the world's had
enough superhero movies so we want to do
something different
or that's like somebody saying well
we're doing a star trek series but
the world's had enough star trek series
we want to do something different
uh it's like somebody saying that this
is supposed to be a a
marvel superhero movie but the world's
had enough of that so we want to do
something different
and make it more about agenda and gender
uh
privilege or something like that now
obviously
i'm being facetious to a certain degree
because all of those examples i just
gave you
actually are there wait people you know
what warner brothers say we don't make
superhero movies we make
movies about superheroes and they sucked
they all sucked
what about uh the star trek picard awful
awful because they did
they completely bypassed the uh the
formula
it's not about star trek anymore it's
about agendas and and poorly written uh
garbage that uh patrick stewart just
wants to shove into it
uh and marvel you know the captain
marvel movie you know they dropped the
ball on that
so this is what happens and this is the
point i'm trying to make is this is
hollywood's mo right now
they are are continuously
and determined to not give the public
what they want
but to give the public what they want
the public to want
under the guise of what the public wants
and hope everybody will just swallow it
and be okay and shut up about it
that's what they did that's what they're
doing with uh that's what marvel's done
that's what star wars has done
that's what uh now apparently the bill
and ted movie is going to be about and
again i don't know to the degree of
which it'll be in there
but just the simple principle of the
thing the fact that they already
made this fundamental change with their
daughters and i don't mind again like
fan man said i've got a daughter too i
don't mind that they have daughters but
that's a change
they're changing it and why are they
changing it for the sake of agenda
you can't pretend it's for any other
reason it's for agenda
and that's uh that's not okay and we've
gotta stop just
big out buddy close your ears
i love big l and i love love love that
he can find something good in everything
but if we were all like big al then we
would never receive anything quality
from hollywood
because we would all just go ahead and
pay for and watch whatever they put out
and support it and
and uh and imbibe in it and talk about
it and give them pat them on the back
for it to some degree or find something
at least to pat on the back for it
so it's good that we have our big al and
it's good that we have some people like
that but that needs to be the exception
and not the rule
when it comes to uh to to to those of us
who
decide whether or not we're gonna
support movies and this is a pivotal
time
for this right now as well because we're
just coming back to
the point where people can go back to
theaters and and
see if that's still a thing now i mean
it has changed to a certain degree i i
can imagine
they'll try to stop releasing it on home
release but if uh
i don't i think we can demand that
happens i think that's got a possibility
of being the norm now
which i think would be great because uh
you know the theater experience is just
awful when you have to deal with
everybody else who doesn't you know
respect anybody in the theater and
whatnot so
that's um that's something i think that
we need to uh
to pay attention to but also the kinds
of movies now
i'm not trying to be all uh huffy and
say
you know doom and gloom hollywood will
never blah blah blah just don't support
it just know
it's not that i do think things could
change at some point
but i and uh and as troy points out
troy's been sharing videos in the
facebook group where you know these
these rumors or whatever you know
possibly this is going on in disney and
hey that's great if that happens that's
a good thing if that happens
what my comment on the whole the whole
topic
is is that that's nowhere near enough
and if we just go back and blindly
support them
for doing such things they don't they're
not smart enough to know the difference
they're not smart enough to know oh
they came back because we did this
they'll just say oh they're back now
they're back now so we can keep doing
whatever we want i mean we've seen that
over and over and over again
every like one little step forward you
know slide back down the hill the next
time they try to make a decision
i mean we've seen that with dc we've
seen that with uh
with all these franchises too in the
films
and i made a video years ago i've talked
about it it was really popular was
called dc comics are no longer worth
reviewing
they're simply not and i stand by that
to this day
even though you might have this or that
you know rogue comic that gets released
like the superman digital or whatever
that's cool
dc comics is not worth talking about as
an entity in any kind of positive manner
it's not worth being hopeful about it's
not worth
talking about because the whole system's
still there didio left and that's great
news
deserve to be celebrated but it's all
still
the whole the whole structure still
there to completely
continue to disintegrate everything that
you love about the characters that's not
changing anytime soon
maybe you'll get this rogue comic here
and there and that's fine but dc comics
is no longer something that you can you
know uh
celebrate you know your fandom about in
terms of what's coming out what's new if
you
if you uh prefer the iconic characters
you know it just doesn't work like that
so the uh what what i'm trying to say
now then
is my take on this and this is my take
i'm just one voice in this i mean we've
got you know in our community different
people
uh putting forth their ideas about it
but my take is that hollywood
is no longer worth supporting
or reviewing are getting excited about
i think that this whole again i'm
avoiding watch words for the for you
know for youtube
but the uh everybody staying home and
unable to go to the theaters
has given us a real strong hand to play
here and
and we can do a bit of demanding i think
they're going but if we don't
if we don't step out of the gate strong
and say no we're not putting up
up with x y and z if we just step out of
the gate and say well you know i'll see
it
i'll pay for that sure you know i wanna
there's something good about it i'm sure
you're not you're not telling them
anything you're not sending them any
kind of message
so uh there are like again like just
like dc will put out that that great
robert vendetti superman book you know
i'm not saying that there's nothing ever
going to be of any
worth from hollywood i mean i still hope
against hope that the ghostbusters
afterlife is something
uh that i might like just because of
who's involved and everything and the
the journey that that film and franchise
has taken
recently but uh but we'll see we'll see
as we get more reveals and we'll see if
that's something but
i just i don't think hollywood is worth
giving money to
period for right now i think they need
to they've
started if rumors are true they've
started to get the message our
factions within hollywood might have
started to get the message and that's a
good thing that's good
but for that message and for that lesson
to really sink in
we need to give them time they're not
smart enough the the marketing the
targeting groups
they need you know if disney started to
crumble a little bit that's a good thing
you know
and if they've made some changes that's
a good thing but they need to crumble
more
and they need to make more changes if
they learn
that this is something they can just
kind of okay so-and-so gets the boot we
bring so-and-so in okay we change this
up a little bit here
okay there all right good everything's
fine no lesson you know it's like it's
like disciplining a child
you know you can't just uh just say okay
don't do that again you know you have to
teach them
a lesson and that's what hollywood needs
right now
the people in hollywood those who are in
power they just they
they count out to this uh to this agenda
seekers out there and then they've
interwoven themselves into the system
and it's going to take something
something strong and uh
drastic to weed them out and to get to
get the system to correct itself i mean
his choices many times hollywood is a
business after all and i agree with that
uh
i just think that uh for the business
part to take over and correct
the ideologue part it's gonna need a
strong spanking
basically it's what i think

i mean i feel like you guys are within
less than six feet of each other
you're the one that approached us all
right
like male version it's video of a subway
showdown
a student calling out nypd officers for
not
wearing their face masks masks have been
mandatory on the mta since april
and a fine for not wearing one took
effect this week
but an nyu student found two police
officers flouting that role that they're
supposed to enforce
news 4's randa novini spoke exclusively
to that student does the final part
destination
confronting cops in the subway i feel
like just the easiest way
for them to just like gain trust from
the community that's nyu college student
mihai cho khan behind the camera
asking two officers why they're not
wearing face masks
it states that as long as you can
maintain six feet distance you don't
have to wear them
if you want to step within six feet of
me i'll gladly put on the mess
mihai points out the two officers are
less than six feet from each other
that's when the second officer says this
i carry with like male version of camera
i just feel like i associate like
equating that with me just asking them
like why they weren't wearing a mask and
like why if they were eligible for the
fine
was it really appropriate mihai was
passing through the clark street subway
station tuesday
when he approached the officers it was a
day after the mta and nypd started
fining riders who don't wear masks in
the subway system
i just thought that it was like shocking
that like you know they're going to
flaunt it like what the second day
i also say to the police
wear a mask that was the governor back
in june
nypd officers had been seen without
masks during protests and other
encounters
new yorkers like ken say it's something
they've continued to see
since the message that they're above the
law they can do whatever they want
and that they don't care if they're
hurting people the nypd tells us it's
important that officers are reinforcing
best health practices
and wearing a mask for their own safety
they go on to say they'll be doing spot
checks of officers throughout the system
the one that approached us mihai says
he's disappointed by the interaction
and hopes more will be done to make sure
everyone follows the rules
they could just step up the mask wearing
efforts just a little bit you know

well i don't know what to tell you these
directors don't even know the absolute
basics
the absolute basics about the characters
and the films and franchises that they
are gifted
and that's exactly what happens when
disney is more concerned about what is
between someone's legs when hiring a
director
then maybe hiring the right person now
black widow
is a movie that i'm still excited to see
it is a movie i will stream
and not see in the theater given all the
relevant
revelations around uh black widow
i'm sorry disney themselves but how many
times have we seen this before
first time director gets awarded and
they're more you know
you know they're more concerned with hey
i'm a woman this is great
woman director oops uh we're gonna call
the movie
um instead of calling the movie harley
quinn
we're gonna call it birds of prey in the
fantabulous
emancipation of one harvey quinn
only a woman could have thought of that
name sorry ladies
i know i have four percent four percent
of my viewers
are female and i appreciate you and i'm
sure you would have known better
but yikes speaking of which
we're almost under the 40 mark we're at
like 40.6 percent of my viewers that are
not subscribed
i hope today will be the day you click
that subscribe button
right now did you do it
i would really appreciate it i can tell
that
when people actually do that and they
interact with the videos
we do so much better on this channel and
of course i work for all of you
you don't have to but i really
appreciate it
now for a long time i've talked about
these directors that disney has
with that inherit these beloved
franchises
and they don't care about the franchise
it's just like you get
apparently people like ryan roundhead
johnson
uh to direct movies like the last jedi
with star wars
the more concerned about the politics of
the director or if they fit the right
mold
than if the director took even a minute
of their time to understand it
the director of black widow
said that scarlett johansson's character
natasha
romanov is the only avenger without
superpowers
are you kidding me like most of the
avengers don't have superpowers have you
ever thought about that
hawkeye doesn't have super powers
natasha romanoff black widow doesn't
have super powers
robert downey jr has iron man doesn't
have super powers
he's super rich you might call that a
superpower have you subscribed yet
clicked like it helps more than you
could know
rant continues and i'm not i'm not
saying like look
even i am a casual fan of modern
avengers
lore you know in the avengers films
they're popcorn movies meant to do
low risk be highly entertaining and sell
tickets
that's fine this isn't some deep
dark you know the hometown it's not like
she didn't know the hometown of where
hawkeye was born
or he you know this is like
table stakes
the avengers mostly don't have super
powers
you have the incredible hulk yes okay
that
clearly right black widow
kate shortland black widow director kate
shortland recently declared that
scarlett johansson's natasha romanoff is
the only avenger without super powers
probably
trying to say woman get the short end of
the stick
shortland's comments came while pro
promoting the film
in an interview with total film along
with actress florence pooh
pooh the director falsely claimed that
black widow's the only character that
doesn't have superpowers in the avenger
apparently hawkeye gets the short end of
the stick again
also iron man technically doesn't have
powers
but he has access to the super suit
others like ant-man
falcon war machine also only use suits
and do not have super powers
this is what i'm saying like this is the
like a majority of superheroes in the
marvel universe i won't say a majority
but a sizable
chunk do not have super powers
after falsely claiming that black widow
is the only one who doesn't have
superpowers
she claims the lack of superpowers is a
strength
what
sherlin explains we saw that as a
strength because she always has to dig
really deep to get out of bad situations
and we put her in a lot of hard
situations
i thought about women walking into the
train station
and having to deal with that and what
happens
so exactly she tried to be woke about it
saying that
the that black widow is like oh black
widow's
uh you know been tossed aside
because of some ism she doesn't have
superpowers
i'm i am i being that hard am i going
too hard on this director
like you it'd be one thing if you said
it an offhand remark
okay but it feels like completely a
completely different thing
that you literally spun it as the reason
you made the film the way you did
so you're not just watching her fly
through situations knowing she'll get
out of it
she want you want to see her grit and
determination and that's what we got
shortly concluded the actress would also
weigh in
on the film and say that it is about the
taking advantage
of women she told she told total film
the film is about the uh bad things
that happen to women it's about how they
get involuntary
hysterectomies at the age of eight it's
about girls who are taken from around
the world it's so painful
and it's so important
really i just wanted to see black widow
totally kicking butt now i'm it's it's
supposed to
black widows woke now part of the
excitement for me is about women and
girls from around the world getting to
see
this and that they're going to see this
kind of story that was really challenged
by its own victims
she added for a marvel film to be
reaching all those levels it's really
exciting
the best thing about it is it's not
layered on with a color of gray
you'll see these women strive and be
strong they're tough and yet they still
need to discuss
how they were taken advantage of it's an
incredibly powerful piece
girl it's a marvel film
stop trying to act like these films are
changing lives
she just previously described the film
to actor bonnie feldstein
and variety's actors on actor segment as
raw and very
painful i started
she stated i think we've got something
very raw and very painful
and very beautiful and i think people
are really going to be surprised by the
outcome
of a big action film having that much
heart sounds
like it's like i'm actually less excited
now to see the movie
if that's what we're really trying to
portray i don't see scarlett johansson
as
that type of actress she's really never
been that way
i know lots of people will be emotional
about her because her character had such
a hard ending in avengers end game
but it was special learning from her and
she's been doing this for like 10 years
for her to be in this film is special
and i got to be there to see her do
stunts and
and lives in it lives in it and it's so
her
it's currently black widows currently
scheduled to be released in theaters
november 6 the week before the
playstation 5 in the united states on
october 28th in the uk
i i assume disney will probably also
release
this for a video on demand um
you know and if you go even in the
comics here as the dad bought reports
she had in immortality in the comics she
also has super technology like zappy
hands and armored costume and whatnot
she's about as super powered as hawkeye
and falcon i don't co
tony or ant-man either because they have
powers that are just more they don't
have powers
other than just armor or a flight pack
of course they know nothing about the
characters
marvel's race to irrelevancy makes me
smile let me know
do you think that this changes anything
for you
i feel like i don't want to reward a
director who doesn't understand even the
basics of the marvel cinematic universe
and perhaps this is exactly why these
films have gotten so sanitized and
boring
